Healthy Eating in Practice is a hands-on CME conference for physicians and other healthcare professionals to better support healthy eating.

Intended for:

  • Physicians
  • Nurses
  • Dietitians
  • Health Educators
  • Community Advocates

Grounded in experiential learning, this national conference will equip practitioners with skills and approaches that work in the day-to-day reality of healthcare.

The World Health Organization estimates that by 2020 two-thirds all deaths will be attributable to chronic preventable diseases, most of them strongly associated with diet, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke. Treating these diseases is expensive, and often it isn’t working. We know that diet and lifestyle modifications are better solutions, particularly in early childhood, when instilling lifelong habits can positively impact the whole family. But it can be difficult to make changes in our clinical practice. Healthy Eating in Practice offers the tools and resources we need to implement healthy eating practices with our patients, our communities, our world, and ourselves.

At the conclusion of this conference, attendees will be able to:

  • Cite evidence for the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases through lifestyle changes
  • Evaluate self-efficacy in the healthy eating behavior/attitude of the clinician and how that affects treatment of the patient
  • Apply proven techniques to effectively counsel patients about diet and lifestyle changes
  • Recommend action steps patients can take to make changes in their diets and lifestyles, including planning and preparing healthy meals
  • Demonstrate healthy eating behaviors
  • Create or strengthen environments that support healthy eating within the practice or institution
  • Employ advocacy skills to effect changes in local, regional, or national food policy

Testimonial

“As a cardiologist, I know too well the impact of poor nutrition on chronic diseases—about 75% of chronic diseases are directly related to lifestyle. As health care costs continue to rise, it is clear that our current medical system simply cannot stem the tide of chronic disease. Healthy Eating in Practice is a prescription to help revolutionize that system. Please join me there to become an agent of change in your community!”
